Biography
Monika runs her boutique family winery along with her brother in Opuzen, a small city where she was born. She grew up in Split and moved soon to to study and work. She got a Master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Zagreb and at the same time she obtained the foreign language certificates for English, French and Italian. During that period she also completed the WSET’s Level 3 qualification in Zagreb, but the call of the sea was stronger so she returned back home. She now oversees the running of the winery, handling everything from quality control to marketing. On top of that she works as a sommelier at Zrno Soli restaurant in Split.
The winery is now established as a small brand that offers exceptional wines. Among many awards, they are especially proud of the Decanter gold medal and the gold medal from the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles that the received for their wines.
As a lecturer for the Wine and Spirits Education Trust in Croatia, Monika shares her vast knowledge and experience with students of the Wine Academy Croatia. She is often called to deliver workshops at wine festivals such as Vinart Grand Tasting and Vino Dalmacije and she holds wine trainings for yachts or restaurants staff. Her work as a sommelier has taken her abroad where she delivers master classes on Croatian wines to wine professionals and wine lovers.
In her free time Monika enjoys long walks, reading, yoga, and swimming in her favourite Adriatic Sea.
