Prof. Aleksandar Mešić has been a member  of  the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zagreb  since 1998, where throughout his academic career he has pursued scientific, teaching, and professional activities in the field of agronomy and plant protection. He obtained his Master’s degree and PhD in the field of phytomedicine, i.e. plant protection, and also completed a specialist postgraduate MBA programme in Business Administration in Agribusiness. His scientific and teaching work is primarily focused on plant protection, with particular emphasis on the rational and sustainable use of plant protection products, environmental protection, and the impact of climate change on agricultural production. A particular area of his scientific and professional interest is urban entomology, i.e. the study of harmful organisms in urban environments and the development of effective and environmentally friendly methods for their control. He has undertaken scientific and professional training in China, the United Kingdom, and Ireland and has participated in numerous national and international scientific and professional activities. He has served as a project leader and collaborator on a large number of projects and is the author and co-author of numerous publications in the fields of agronomy, plant protection, and related disciplines. In addition to his academic and scientific work, Aleksandar Mešić has significant entrepreneurial experience in the agricultural sector. Since the early 2000s, he has been involved in business activities related to fresh fruit and vegetables, through which he gained experience in the organisation and management of systems for controlling the health safety, quality, and origin of products, as well as their distribution. This experience has provided him with first-hand insight into the needs of agricultural producers and the functioning of the agri-food sector. As Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, he is focused on the further development of the Faculty, strengthening scientific excellence and the quality of education, and fostering stronger links between science, higher education, business, and society. He places particular importance on interdisciplinarity, knowledge and technology transfer, and the development of sustainable, competitive, and climate-resilient agriculture.
